A New Chapter for Miss Biscuit

Well, I didn't stay away for very long!

When I announced earlier this year that I was closing Miss Biscuit, I genuinely thought I was walking away from the business I had built over the past fourteen years.

And in many ways, I was.

After fourteen amazing years, it was time to say goodbye to the shops, the stock rooms, the classrooms, the staff, the endless ordering, and all the moving parts that came with running Miss Biscuit. 

What began at my kitchen bench had grown into something far bigger that I ever imagined. We opened multiple stores, taught thousands of students, travelled around Australia (and the world!) to teach, designed thousands of cookie cutters and sent Miss Biscuit parcels all over Australia.

It was wonderful. It was exhausting. I could see changes coming for retail and so I knew it was time for me to change.

But as hundreds of people came though our final classes, emailed us, dm'd us and simply told me what Miss Biscuit meant to them, I realised I wasn't quite ready to say goodbye.

And once the dust settled, I realised there were parts of Miss Biscuit I really did miss. 

I missed creating.

I missed teaching.

And I missed sharing the love for this unique and creative craft. What I didn't miss was running a large retail business!

And that got me thinking. Perhaps Miss Biscuit didn't have to disappear. Perhaps it just needed to be something different. 

So that's what you are looking at now. Back to where I started.

There is something rather lovely about the fact that this next version of Miss Biscuit is being created back at my kitchen bench. No shop. No staff. No shelves to restock.

Just me, creating when inspiration strikes and sharing it with you.

I've brought some of our most loved Miss Biscuit resources with me, including our digital cookie cutter files and eBooks, so they don't disappear because the physical business has closed.

But I'm also starting to create new things.

In the future you will find downloadable decorating projects, new cookie cutter designs and somewhat to my own surprise, online classes.

I've just filmed my updated Royal Icing Consistency Refresher from my kitchen. After ten years of teaching classes in person, being able to turn on a couple of cameras, teach something and make it available to decorators anywhere in the world feels rather exciting. 

A smaller, simpler Miss Biscuit.

I'm deliberately not making grand plans for what comes next. That's actually the whole point.

I want this version of Miss Biscuit to stay small, flexible and fun. I want to create when I have something worth sharing, rather than constantly having to create because the business demands it.

There will be decorating tips and recipes here on the blog, new digital resources, occasional new cutter designs and more online classes when I feel inspired to make them.

Some things will be familiar. Some will be completely new. I'm just going to see where it takes me.

And to those of you who are still here.... thank you.

One of the loveliest things about closing Miss Biscuit was realising just how many people had been with us for years - some almost from the very beginning. I've seen familiar names popping up again as people have joined the new mailing list and visited this new website and I can't tell you what's that meant to me.

So if you have popped by today and you are wondering whether this really is me behind the new Miss Biscuit...it is :)

Same Miss Biscuit. Same me.

Just a very different (and much simpler) next chapter.
